Giving+Together: Health Equity in the Age of COVID-19

COVID-19 has impacted us all and threatened the lives of older adults. Tragically, 89% of COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota were individuals 65 years or older. The pandemic also shed light on the disparities between the metro and Greater Minnesota, and for older people of color who historically have faced challenges accessing culturally respectful healthcare.

How can we improve health outcomes for under-served individuals, especially those in Greater Minnesota and from communities of color? Hear from three experts about the intersection of age, geography, race and healthcare during the pandemic.

Equity Inside Out

Though the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation has long advocated for equity, the racial reckoning of 2020 lifted these issues to the forefront. If you have not been steeped in this work, it may feel like a new language or foreign territory. Join Eric J. Jolly, Ph.D., president & CEO, and Nadege Souvenir, senior vice president of Operations & Learning, as they have a conversation about equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

Attend the webinar and learn a little bit about EDI, from key terminology to personal experiences to resources for more learning. We will also answer some common donor questions and share some of the Foundation's racial equity work.

Planning for an Unknown Future - Supporting Our Communities in Trying Times & Beyond

Eric. J. Jolly, Ph.D., president & CEO, and Pahoua Yang Hoffman, senior vice president of Community Impact, discussed the many ways the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, along with our donors and nonprofit partners, have addressed the most pressing issues of our time.

Giving+Together: Higher Education

Studies show that higher education provides numerous life benefits and offers an intergenerational pathway out of poverty. Yet high-income, white students are more than twice as likely to graduate from college compared to their low-income peers of color. How can we minimize the achievement gap in higher education?

At this webinar, three speakers highlighted programs that provide college preparation and support to low-income, new Americans and BIPOC students. Learn how these initiatives are helping students prepare for and navigate postsecondary experiences, leading to higher retention rates in school and overall academic success.

Giving+Together: Early Childhood Education

The first three years of a child’s life provide the necessary building blocks for educational achievement, economic productivity, healthy lives and stronger communities. This period ensures a strong foundation for future development, and it is essential that parents, caregivers, practitioners and policymakers stay informed about how to support children and families during this critical stage.

Representatives from Think Small, West Central Initiative, Children’s Defense Fund Minnesota and Montessori American Indian Childcare Center joined us to share how they advocate for early childhood education in the communities they serve.
