Martin County Youth Foundation
About the Foundation
The Martin County Youth Foundation (MCYF) is a permanent community endowment dedicated exclusively to serving the needs of area youth. Formerly known as the Fairmont Area Youth Foundation, MCYF was established in 2000 by a group of active citizens concerned about the area’s future. The name was changed to Martin County Youth Foundation in 2005 to better reflect the area served. Today, MCYF exclusively supports youth-oriented programs of nonprofit organizations, churches, schools and units of government.
Comprised of youths and adults alike, MCYF’s advisory board is responsible for reinvesting the endowment’s earnings into the community. Grants are awarded twice per year. MCYF offers flexible giving options that allow individual and corporate donors to support area youth now and far into the future.
How the Martin County Youth Foundation Makes a Difference
To date, MCYF has provided more than $198,000 to programs that support Martin County youth. Demonstrating its commitment to the area’s youngest children, MCYF has supported a variety of preschool scholarships, arts activities, a home visitor program and family education projects. For adolescents, it has supported mentoring networks, suicide-prevention efforts, academic camps, after-school programs and summer activities. To ensure equal participation in sports and other extracurricular activities, hardships grants are available to the children of low-income parents.
